Precept Men’s Conference

Precept Ministries is hosting a Men’s Conference in Columbia, SC, June 4-5, 2010, called How Can a Man Live Holy in an Unholy World? The speakers are David Arthur and Brad Bird, and the event is very reasonably priced. Click here for all the info. This will be a life-changing event in the lives of the men in your life. Encourage them to go. Or better yet, buy them tickets for an early Father’s Day present. Your family will reap the benefits of that gift for many years.

A Man’s Strategy for Conquering Temptation by Precept staff member Bob Vereen would also be a great gift for Father’s Day. This 6-week inductive study has no homework. That should appeal to your busy man! This and other great gift ideas can be found in the Precept Camden Store in the right sidebar.

And the winner is. . .

Many people call the prayer found in Matthew 6  “The Lord’s Prayer” because Jesus prayed it. However, it is more accurately called “The Model Prayer” because Jesus was not giving us a spiritual incantation to recite; He was teaching His disciples how to pray to the Father.

Lord, Teach Me to Pray in 28 Days by Kay Arthur is an inductive study of not only the passage found in Matthew 6, but also of other scriptures about prayer. It will guide you step by step, precept upon precept, into the real truth about what the Bible says about prayer – how to pray, when to pray, what to pray, etc. Each of the 28 days is a lesson which takes about 30 minutes to complete. At the end of 28 days, you will have a working, biblical knowledge of prayer. It is a great study to do this summer either alone as a daily devotional or with a friend.

Precept Camden is giving away a copy of Lord, Teach Me to Pray in 28 Days. For a chance to win, simply enter a comment on this post. Tell me a prayer that has God answered for you. You can be as specific or as general as you like. Leave your comment by midnight (EST) on Friday, May 22, 2010. A winner will be chosen by random number generator and will be posted sometime Saturday.

This book would be a valuable part of a wonderful discipleship path. Add to it this study and this one, and you will have a prepared servant ready to grow in his knowledge of the Lord and win the world for Christ!

Key Word Symbol – “fellowship”

Here’s how I mark the word fellowship when doing inductive Bible study. Go here for more ideas on how to mark key words or go to our Key Word Symbol page and print the free downloadable pages. You can add symbols to them as you come up with new ones. Put them in plastic page protectors and keep them in a notebook for handy access.

Where did the New Testament come from?

According to Rick Brannan, the New Testament did not drop out of heaven. It was written by real men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit of God. He, along with John D. Barry, have produced an interactive article for Bible Study Magazine which can be found here. This article explores the roots of the New Testament and is not only informative, but is also very interesting.

Did you know that there are actual original copies of the New Testament still in existence today? Some are mere fragments of texts, but they are original, nonetheless. That is fascinating to me. What is also fascinating besides this article is this chart and the interactive media portion of the article which can be accessed by going here and clicking on “Launch Media.”

The people at Logos and Bible Study Magazine have once again given us a scholarly look at an ancient subject using modern technology. Here are some other interactive articles from them: Canon Comparison Chart , Counting the Ten Commandments , and Chapters and Verses in the Bible .

Congratulations to #11 Tim Jones for winning the signed copy of Precept’s 40 Minute Study Living Like You Belong to God! Thanks to all who left comments and entered. We’ll be doing more giveaways in the future so keep checking back!
